Maverick Interior
Here is a picture of a 1977 Ford Maverick interior. This one has the optional "tooled vinyl" bench seat. You have to look closely to see this impressive tooling in the vinyl. Why would anyone pay extra for this nasty design on the seats? Also check out the mighty fine dashboard on this beauty!

I wonder how much they charged for the finely tooled plastic seat option?
The Pontiac Trans Am sure went down hill once they figured out how to use plastics on the outside of the car. At least the early models were metal and had a fairly clean shape. Otherwise, they looked bloated and over-weight. And who liked those stupid eagles on the hood? Did they find those in a box of Wheaties?
Unfortunately it was too much! What a sad era in U.S. automotive history. :(
Our family traded a 1969 Mustang for a new 1974 Maverick. One year later, the first rust hole appeared on the passenger side front fender. At only 4 years old and 40,000 miles on it, the mechanic told my dad not to drive it on the highway anymore because the rust was too extensive. The next year, my parents bought a new car. Now, I will say that mechanically the car was very good with no big repair bills but the fact that it disintegrated was a bit of a drawback.
